Codosiga vs. Codonosiga
The name Codosiga takes precedence over Codonosiga as Codosiga was published by James-Clark in 1866 (Infusoria Flagellata. American Journal of Science and Arts. Ser. 2, 42: 320-325. (November 1866)). Stein published the name Codonosiga in 1878 ( Der Organismus der Infusionthiere. III. Abt. W. Englemann, Leipzig.), as he wrongly believed that the construction of Codosiga did not follow taxonomic rules. Kent (1880-82. A Manual of the Infusoria. Vols 1--3. D. Bogue, London) pointed out that Stein was incorrect in revising the name to Codonosiga, however he used the name Codonosigidae as a family name for choanoflagellates. Codonosiga is therefore a junior synonym for Codosiga. Martin Carr pers. comm. 2011.
