Extracted molecule total RNA
Extraction protocol Total RNA was isolated from approximately 3,000 worms using an RNeasy Kit (Qiagen) with in-column DNase digestion. The RNA quality was verified to have an RNA integrity number (RIN) greater than 8.0 through using a Bioanalyzer (Agilent).
Stranded mRNA-seq (mRNA sequencing) libraries were prepared from poly(A) RNA after oligo(dT) selection.

Data processing The paired-end reads were aligned to C elegans genome WS220/ce10 by using STAR aligner (https://github.com/alexdobin/STAR).
The expression of C elegans genes was quantified by using HOMER (http://homer.salk.edu).
The differential gene expression analysis was performed by using edgeR (http://www.bioconductor.org/packages/release/bioc/html/edgeR.html).
