Improved lung cancer classification by employing diverse molecular features of microRNAs

(Submitter supplied) Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is one of the most common pathological and histological subtypes of primary lung cancer, with high morbidity and mortality. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenous small non-coding RNAs that regulate the expression of genes at post-transcriptional level. It was reported that A-to-I miRNA editing was decreased in tumors, suggesting the potential value of miRNA editing in cancer classification. more...

Differential Expression of MicroRNAs in Leprosy Skin Lesions

(Submitter supplied) In this study, a comprehensive assessment of human miRNA was performed on leprosy skin lesions using DNA chip microarrays, which included the entire spectrum of the disease along with its reactional states. Sixty-eight samples from leprotic lesions (10TT, 10BT, 10BB, 10BL, 4LL, 14R1, and 10R2) and nine skin biopsies from healthy individuals were used as controls (CC) (ages ranged from 06 to 83 years, 48 were male and 29 female). more...

Circulating miR-16-5p, miR-92a-3p, and miR-451a in plasma from lung cancer patients: potential application in early detection and a regulatory role in tumorigenesis pathways.

(Submitter supplied) Micro(mi)RNAs, potent gene expression regulators associated with tumorigenesis, are stable, abundant circulating molecules, that are detectable in plasma. Thus, miRNAs could potentially be useful in early lung cancer detection. We aimed to identify circulating miRNA signatures in plasma from patients with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC), and to verify whether miRNAs regulate pathways of lung oncogenesis.

Serum is preferable to plasma for circulating exosomal microRNA biomarker discovery studies

(Submitter supplied) Exosomes were purified from 250 ul matched plasma and serum samples using ExoQuickTm. The presence of particles consistent in size with exosomes (60-150nm) was confirmed using a Nanosight LM10. miRNA was extracted from exosomes using an miRNeasy Serum/Plasma kit (Qiagen, #217184). miRNA was reversed transcribed using a TaqMan® microRNA Reverse Transcription Kit (Life technologies, #4366596). miRNA profiling was performed with a high throughput TaqMan® OpenArray® Human microRNA panel (Life technologies, #4461104). more...

Circulating microRNA signature as novel biomarkers for osteoarthritis development

(Submitter supplied) Introduction: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) in circulation have emerged as promising biomarkers. In this study we aimed to identify a circulating miRNA signature for osteoarthritis (OA) patients. Methods: Serum samples were collected from 12 primary OA patients and 12 healthy individuals and were screened using the Agilent Human miRNA Microarray. Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves were constructed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the deregulated miRNAs. more...

Identification of tumor suppressor microRNAs by integrative miRNA and mRNA sequencing of matched tumor normal pairs in lung adenocarcinoma

(Submitter supplied) Roles of microRNAs (miRNAs) have not yet been explored systematically at the genome scale in lung cancer biology despite their important regulatory functions. Here, we report an integrative analysis of microRNA and mRNA sequencing data for the matched tumor and normal samples from 109 Korean female patients with non-small-cell lung adenocarcinoma. We produced miRNA-Seq and RNA-Seq data for 48 patients and RNA-Seq data only for additional 61 patients. more...

Laser capture microdissection and miRNA expression profiling of different tissue morphologies in triple-negative breast cancer

(Submitter supplied) Triple negative breast cancers (TNBC) are a morphologically and genetically heterogeneous group of breast cancers with uncertain prediction of biological behavior and response to therapy. The aim of our study was to analyze miRNAs expression within areas of TNBCs with different cellular morphology. We performed laser capture microdissection with PALM MicroBeam system from Zeiss and subsequent expression profiling with Affymetrix GeneChip miRNA 4.0 Arrays to identify distinct classes of miRNAs deregulated in respective tissue morphologies. more...

Identification of exosomal microRNA panel as diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for small cell lung cancer [mRNAseq_BEAS2B]

(Submitter supplied) Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) has an exceptionally poor prognosis; as most of the cases are initially diagnosed as extensive disease with hematogenous metastasis. Therefore, the early diagnosis of SCLC is very important and may improve its prognosis. To investigate the feasibility of early diagnosis of SCLC, we examined exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs) present in serum obtained from patients with SCLC. Exosomes were isolated in serum from patients with SCLC and healthy individuals and were characterized using particle size and protein markers. more...
