Extraction protocol Samples collected and stored in 500 µL RNAlater and frozen at -80˚C until extraction. Samples were thawed on ice, vortexed, and centrifuged (5,000 g, 10 min, 4˚C). The supernatant was discarded and the RNA was extracted using TRIzol and Turbo DNase (Life Technologies) according to the manufacturers protocols.
