Peripheral blood mononuclear cells were isolated by Ficoll-Hypaque density gradient centrifugation and were either used immediately or cryoperserved in cell-freezing medium. RNA was extracted using Qiagen's Rneasy Mini Kit spin-column technology.

| Data processing |
Microarray quality was examined using the Affymetrix Expression Console Program. CEL files were analyzed using the RMA noralization and expression level quantitation algorithm. Probesets were filtered to identify those with absolute expression at RMA>=5.5 in at least 2 samples. Differential expression was based on treated versus baseline per patient using Benjamini Hochberg corrected p<0.05.
