Human CECs and conjunctival epithelial cells were isolated from donor cornea, conjunctival tissues via the treatment of 1000 protease units (PU)/ml of dispase at 4ºC overnight and TrypLE Express (Life Technologies) at 4ºC for 30 minutes. Each sample was resuspended in a Qiagen lysis buffer, and RNA was prepared using the RNeasy Purification kit (Qiagen) following the manufacturer's recommendations.
