reads were mapped using Tophat 2.0.6 and Bowtie2 alignment was filterd for mapping quality (samtools view -q 255) and all reads mapping to the mitochondrial genome were removed readcounts were retrieved using BEDtools intersectBED differential gene expression analysis was performed using the R-package Deseq Genome_build: mm9 Supplementary_files_format_and_content: read counts are provided as matrix for all samples in a space delimited text file
